NAMPA, Idaho —
Half way through their first heptathlons at Portland State, Donté Robinson and Kevin Robinson sit next to each other at fifth and sixth after day one at the Ed Jacoby Invitational Friday at Jacksons Indoor Track. Donté Robinson leads the pair of Vikings with 2,626 points, while Kevin Robinson sits just behind with 2,525 points.

Donté Robinson, who did not compete indoors in his first year at Portland State last season, got off to a strong start after scoring 732 points with his time of 7.44 seconds in the 60 meters.

Kevin Robinson took the lead over his Viking teammate after the long jump with his jump of 19-11.00 (6.07m), but Donté Robinson took the lead back while placing third in the shot put with a throw of 38-06.25 (11.74m).

Strong performances in the high jump then capped the day for each Viking athlete, particularly Kevin Robinson, who tied for first overall in the event after clearing a personal-best 6-05.25 (1.96m). Kevin Robinson's mark moves him into sole possession of seventh place all-time at Portland State, four inches behind school record-holder Nick Trubachik, who set the school record of 6-09.25 (2.06m) in the high jump in a heptathlon in 2009.

Donté Robinson wasn't far behind Kevin Robinson in the high jump, as he cleared 6-04.00 (1.93m) to claim 740 points, his second event over 700 points on the day.

Alaska Anchorage's Cody Thomas leads the heptathlon overall with 3,054 points after day one, while Dino Dodig of Washington State ranks second with 2,951 points.

The athletes will resume the competition with the 60-meter hurdles at 9 a.m. (MT) Saturday. The sixth event of the competition, the pole vault, will follow at 9:45 a.m. (MT), before the heptathlon concludes with the 1,000 meters at 12:20 p.m. (MT).
