Khari Holloway Latest To Sign With Viking Men's Basketball

Portland State Basketball has added NJCAA Division I All-American Khari Holloway to its roster for 2015-16. Viking Coach Tyler Geving announced the signing of Holloway on Tuesday, bringing his recruiting class to five for the coming year.

Holloway, a 6-2 guard from Mesa Community College, was named second team All-American after leading his team to a 21-9 record and the Region I tournament. Holloway averaged 17.2 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game for the Thunderbirds. He shot .458 from the field, .425 from three-point range and .931 at the free throw line to lead the nation.

"Khari can play multiple positions and guard multiple positions," said Geving. "One thing we really like about him is his toughness. He brings a lot of competitiveness to the program, has good energy and work ethic. He's a great kid and phenomenal leader. Khari has all the traits you look for in a basket player."

Highlights of Holloway's season included scoring a season-high 31 points against Cochise College, and consecutive free throw made streaks of 41, 28, and 19. For the year, he hit 162 of 174 at the stripe.

"Khari is also automatic from the free throw line and he shoots a lot of them," Geving said with a smile.

Originally from Jackson, MS, Holloway attended Mountain Pointe High School in Phoenix, AZ. He earned All-City honors twice and was a three-time team Most Valuable Player. Holloway averaged 19.0 points per game as a senior, 18.2 as a junior.

Portland State completed a 15-14 season in 2014-15. The Vikings were sixth in the 12-team Big Sky Conference with a 9-9 record. PSU will return seven letterwinners, three starters and two redshirts in 2015-16.

Geving has now signed five student-athletes for next season. He anticipates at least one more this spring.
