RESULTS

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Portland State track and field program opened competition at the NCAA West Preliminary rounds Thursday, as senior Sarah Dean and freshman Genna Settle ran in the women's 10,000 and 100 meters, respectively, at John McDonnell Field.

Dean finished the 10,000 in 35:11.57 Thursday, placing her 21st in the semifinals of the event. Dean's finish means she will not advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 10,000, however, as only the top 12 finishers Thursday will advance to the national meet.

Settle also competed in the first round of the women's 100 meters Thursday, finishing in 11.99 seconds to place eighth in the fifth heat of the event. Settle failed to advance to the next round of the women's 100 meters, however, as she placed 36th overall with only the top 24 advancing to the next round.

The Vikings will return to action in the NCAA West Preliminary rounds tomorrow, Friday, May 30, with athletes set to compete in the first rounds of the women's 100-meter hurdles and women's 200 meters. Junior Jazmin Ratcliff and freshman CeCelia Jackson will compete in the first round of the women's 100-meter hurdles at 5:30 p.m. (CT), while junior Jasmine Woods will compete in the first round of the women's 200 meters at 8:25 p.m. (CT).
