Portland State Men’s Tennis Takes Aim At First Conference Win


SEASON STATISTICS

OPENING SERVE
The Portland State men's tennis team takes at aim at its first conference win of the year as the North Dakota comes to town on March 10. The match is slated to take place at the Viks' home court at Club Green Meadows in Vancouver, Wash., and is scheduled for 1 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
The Vikings got back on track and put a check in the win column last Sunday as the team took care of Pacific University to the tune of 6-1. PSU won a hard fought doubles points but cruised to five singles victories to earn the squad's fifth win of the year.

SCOUTING NORTH DAKOTA
North Dakota enters the weekend with a 1-3 overall record having not yet competed in a conference match. Grant Bakke and Josh Oothoudt come in as the team leaders in dual-match singles wins with identical 3-1 marks.
As a team North Dakota has struggled in both singles and doubles play sporting a 10-14 record (.417) in singles action and a 3-9 mark (.250) in doubles play. Connor Oberle and Oothoudt have been the most successful doubles team for North Dakota with a 2-2 record.

NATIONAL UPSET
The team of Antione Bechmann and Ian Risenhoover proved that rankings don't necessarily mean anything as the duo tallied a huge upset over the No. 57 doubles team from Portland, Michel HuKwo and Jackson Martin, 8-6 on last Friday.

DOUBLES SPECIALIST
Antoine Bechmann has proved to be a doubles specialist for Portland State as it hasn't mattered who you put him with, the results have been the same. The junior from Strasbourg, France is 8-3 overall, having played with multiple partners. His best record came with teammate Abhinav Mishra as the duo enjoyed an unbeaten stretch, going 4-0, before suffering their first two losses. Bechmann is also 3-1 with Ian Risenhoover and 1-0 with Zach Lubek.
