Portland State Men’s Tennis Returns Home For a One-Match Homestand Against Idaho

OPENING SERVE
The Viks return home after struggling on the road this past weekend to host the Idaho Vandals at Club Green Meadows on Saturday. The match time is slated for 6 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
The Viks went 0-2 in its first Big Sky road trip, getting tripped up by the Idaho State Bengals last Saturday, to the tune of 6-1, followed by a 7-0 loss to Weber State on Sunday. The Viks doubles play was considerably more competitive than its singles game, as PSU took one doubles contest against the Bengals and nearly took the doubles point against the Wildcats. In Saturdays match, despite the team of Antoine Bechmann and Abhinav Mishra downing the Bengals No. 1 team of Charles Norman and Nate Gross, 8-5, the Viks lost the doubles point. PSU struggled in singles play as well as Brent Wheeler was the only Viking to record a win, coming back from a hurt ankle to seal the match 6-2, 6-3.
Against Weber State it was more of the same, after a close doubles point where two courts pushed their opponents to the limit, but ultimately fell, the Viks were bested in every singles match to lose the contest against the Wildcats, 7-0.

SCOUTING IDAHO
The Vandals come into the contest having gone a perfect 7-0 so far this season. The team is coming off a 2-0 weekend when it defeated conference opponent, Utah State and Weber State by identical, 7-0 scores. The Viks fell to Weber State last weekend as well, falling to the Wildcats 7-0.

TEAM WORK
Entering their match against Weber State last weekend the team of Abhinav Mishra and Antoine Bechmann had gone a perfect 4-0 as a team and 2-0 in conference. The tandem nearly defended that streak holding a 5-2 edge against their Weber State opponents but let the match get away, falling 8-6.
