PORTLAND, Ore. – The men's tennis had two players advanced to the semifinal-round of the White consolation bracket as day two of the EWU Classic wrapped up in Cheney, Wash., on Saturday. Senior
Zach Lubek and sophomore
Dillon Triance both tallied wins to continue on in the consolation tournament.
Lubek defeated teammate and senior Sean Sullivan in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. Meanwhile Triance notched a win of his own over Eagles player, Cody Smith, 7-5, 6-2.
The Viks also had some strong matches in doubles play as the teams of freshmen
Lukas Kortus and sophomore
Brent Wheeler and sophomore
Alec Marx and junior
Abhinav Mishra both advanced to the quarterfinal round. Kortus and Wheeler defeated the Seattle tandem of Malagutti and Clare, 8-2 and Idaho duo of Bendeck and Ondentto, 8-5 before falling to the Gonzaga team of Brandt and Nazal, 8-1. Marx and Mishra saw similar success as the team downed Lynch and Bedoines, 8-6, from Seattle, Smith and Varas of Gonzaga, 8-3 before getting tripped up by Schoble and Jamin, 8-6.
PSU also found success in the consolation bracket in doubles play as Triance and freshman Will Cochrane advanced to the semifinals. The duo defeated, Malgutti and Clare from Seattle before falling to Lynch and Bedoines also of the Redhawks.
