CHENEY, Wash. – A weekend after celebrating the completion of its new practice courts, the 2012 Portland State men's tennis team will see how the new facilities are affecting its game when it gets its first taste of action in 2012. PSU members will play in the EWU Fall Classic, in Cheney, Wash. The three-day tournament will start this Friday, Sept 21 and runs through Sunday Sept. 23.
Portland State competitors will play members of host Eastern Washington, Montana, Gonzaga, Idaho and Seattle. The tournament will feature nearly 50 individuals competing in two flights – designated by the Eastern Washington school colors – red and white, with a consolation bracket for each. There will also be one flight of doubles action, which also will include a consolation round.
The men's squad sports a bevy of new faces as the team welcomes three freshman to the fold,
Will Cochrane,
Lukas Kortus and
William Risenhoover. Meanwhile also new to the team are transfers
Brent Wheeler and
Dillon Triance. The Viks will look to seniors
Zach Lubek,
Sean Sullivan and junior
Abhinav Mishra as the team's elder statesmen.
