Black Breaks Big Sky Record in the 60-meters


BOISE, Idaho/SEATTLE, Wash.Geronne Black broke the Big Sky Conference record in the women's 60-meter dash with a time of 7.41 Saturday at the Boise State Team Challenge in Nampa, Idaho. Black was the previous co-record holder at 7.43.
 
Black won the first heat of the 60-meter dash prelims with a time of 7.61, which was fifth best going into the finals. She then ran 0.2 second faster in the finals to finish second overall with the record setting time of 7.41.
 
Along with Black, the Vikings sent five other sprinters to the finals of the women's 60-meter dash. Cassandra Sidner made it to the finals with a personal-best of 7.88 in the prelims. Anaiah Rhodes ran a personal-best time of 7.66 in the finals, as did Sierra Brooks and Jazmin Ratcliff with times of 7.72 and 7.78 respectively. P'Lar Dorsett was also in the finals.
 
Karene King ran a time of 24.09, just 0.01 second off her season best and 0.07 second off her career and school record time of 24.02 to win the women's 200-meter dash at the BSU Team Challenge.
 
Black set a season best in the women's 200-meters with a time of 25.02 while Joenisha Vinson and Rhodes set personal bests with times of 25.36 and 25.16 respectively. Vinson's time qualifies her for the Big Sky Championship Feb. 24-25 in Flagstaff, Ariz. The Vikings now have eight female sprinters qualified for the championship in the 200-meters.
 
On the men's side at the BSU Team Challenge, Jake Ovgard set a personal best in the men's 60-meters finals with a time of 6.97, which puts him fourth all-time at Portland State for the event. He broke his previous personal best earlier in the day during the prelims.
 
Ovgard also set a personal-best time of 22.60 in the men's 200-meters. J.J. Rosenberg set season bests in the 200 and 400-meters with times of 22.54 and 49.88 respectively.
 
In Seattle, Wash. at the Flowtrack Husky Classic, Sarah Hanchett ran the second fastest time in Portland State history in the women's 800-meters with a time of 2:12.50.
 
Amber Rozcicha ran a personal best time in the women's mile run with a time of 5:01.88 while Brittany Castillo and Keikoanne Hollins both ran personal best times in the event with times of 5:16.83 and 5:21.88.
 
Tony Crisofully ran a time of 1:54.99 for a season best in the men's 800-meters while Taylen Howland ran a personal best time of 1:56.97 in the event.
 
The Vikings now have two weeks off before the Big Sky Indoor Championship Feb. 24-25 in Flagstaff, Ariz. Eighteen total Vikings have qualified for the Championship.
