Sprinters Impress as PSU Women’s Indoor Track Wraps Up Jacksons Open

NAMPA, Idaho – Portland State sprinters had another strong performance on the final day of the Jacksons Open, hosted by Boise State, as the team reeled in a second-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay and numerous top-10 times.

The 4x400m relay team of Dejuane Toliver, Joenisha Vinson, Ashley Frazier and Dominique Maloney had the event's second-best time with a mark of 3:54.72. The quartet picked up right where it left off last season as the squad tallied a new program record in the event in 2011-12.

Geronne Black and Jazmin Ratcliff ran to top-10 performances in the 200-meter event as Black secured a time of 25.38, good for seventh, while Ratcliff took ninth with a time of 25.52.

Maloney turned in another solid performance in the 400m as she came in third with a mark of 57.36.

Vinson strayed from the track to compete in the high jump later in the morning as she finished tied for sixth in the event with a mark of 1.50m (4-11.00).

In the throws events Hanna Johnson and Sydney Johnson participated in the shotput as both secured top-10 results. Hanna Johnson recorded a final mark of 12.88m (42-03.25), good for fifth-place, while Sydney Johnson took eighth with a distance of 11.98m (39-03.75). Meanwhile Sydney Johnson took 13th in the weight throw with a distance of 12.38m (40-07.50).

The Viks now have over a month before its next scheduled meet when the PSU heads up to Seattle, Wash., to compete at the UW Preview.
