PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland State women's soccer team, with some helping hands from the women's basketball team, made Valentine cards for adults, teens and children involved with the Albertina Kerr Center in Portland, Ore.
The soccer team has worked closely with Albertina Kerr for the last three years, turning the card marking into an annual social gathering. The players and coaches bring food, drinks, music, craft paper and art supplies, to create a social event that brings the team together, while improving the community.
This year Head Soccer Coach
Laura Schott sent an invitation to PSU Athletics Community Outreach Coordinator Jenna Wilson to get other teams involved. This is the first year another PSU sports program has been involved.
Schott said "The players really enjoy it - the music's playing, there's food - It's kind of become a team tradition." Pepperdine transfer
Melissa Trammell, participating in her first Valentines card project with the Vikings, said "It's really nice to make something for someone who might get anything for valentines day. It's really fun and it just makes you feel good."
Albertina Kerr helps children, adults and families in Oregon with mental health challenges and developmental disabilities, empowering them to lead fuller, self-determined lives.
