Erie, CO - The Viking golf team climbed to fourth place on the final day of the Colorado/Heather Farr Memorial Tournament, finishing at 308-306-313=927. Fifteenth-ranked Colorado, also the host of the tournament, won by 16 shots over Colorado State with 290-300-303=893.
The Vikings, who were in seventh after the first round, moved up to sixth after round two. Then, despite much higher scores by all teams on Saturday, the Vikings moved into fourth place among the 11 schools competing.
Jessica Wallace of Colorado came from behind to win the individual title. In eighth place at the start of the day, she shot the best round by three shots with an even-par 72. Wallace finished at six-over par 73-75-72=220.
Sophomore
Britney Yada was the top Viking finisher, placing 18th among 63 golfers. Yada shot 77-74-81=232.
Kalyn Dodge and
Lauren Taylor tied for 24th. Dodge, a senior, shot 78-78-79=235. Taylor, a freshman in her first event, shot 82-75-78=235.
Junior
Tiffany Schoning had the best round for the Vikings on Saturday with a 75. She finished in a tie for 33rd at 238.
CHIP SHOTS: The Vikings beat the other three Big Sky schools competing in the tournament. They are 11-1 in head-to-head scoring with Big Sky schools this year… PSU plays again in a triangle tournament at Washington National Golf Club on Oct. 17 against Oregon State and Washington.
