Decorated PSU soccer alum Cris Lewis returned to the Viking program before the 2014 season and will enter her fourth year as coach within the program in 2017. Lewis served as a volunteer assistant in 2014, but got bumped up to an assistant coach in 2015.
Lewis coaches the team's goalkeepers after spending four years as a starting goalkeeper within the PSU program from 2006-09. Lewis earned All-Big Sky honors after all four seasons of her career, and was named the Big Sky Defensive MVP as a senior in 2009, when she also made the All-Big Sky first team. Additionally, Lewis helped lead the Vikings to the program's first outright Big Sky regular-season title in 2009, when she set a then-single-season record for shutouts with eight.
Lewis also holds the Portland State career records in saves (375), saves per match (5.68) and goalkeeper wins (24). Additionally, Lewis ranks tied for the career lead in shutouts, after her pupil Caitlin Plese tied her with 17 career shutouts in 2014.
Since graduating, Lewis has spent time playing for various club teams in the Portland area, including a couple of appearances with Portland Thorns FC of the NWSL, the highest level of professional women’s soccer in the United States. Lewis started Thorns FC’s home match against the Chicago Fire on June 1, 2013, and has been an available substitute for a couple other matches during the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
Lewis graduated from Portland State in 2010, and is a native of Burien, Wash.
